Language Planning in Côte d'Ivoire
Paulin G. Djité

This monograph presents the language situation in Côte d'Ivoire. It examines the historical and socio-political processes and the language policies and language-in-education practices of the country. It shows that the debate on language policy over the last two decades has failed to lead to the adoption of a language plan that takes into account the current language situation in the country. It also argues that, given the socio-political and economic difficulties faced by Côte d'Ivoire over the last decade, this situation is likely to remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.
